Experienced wind energy CEO Mark Jones has taken the helm at Ventient Energy, with a mandate to grow the firm’s portfolio within and beyond the UK.

Edinburgh-based Ventient Energy is a leading UK independent wind farm owner and operator with nearly 690MW installed capacity across 34 wind farms country-wide.

Jones has been brought on board to expand Ventient’s portfolio in the UK and overseas in what is described as a ‘major new phase’ for the business.

Prior to his appointment, Jones was group CEO of Dutch turbine manufacturer EWT, successfully leading its expansion into a UK market leading position and major new territories worldwide. Jones also successfully built wind and solar businesses both internationally and in the UK whilst working with both private and institutional capital.

Ventient Energy was formed in 2017 from independent wind power producers Zephyr and Infinis Wind, when the Infinis wind portfolio was acquired by institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

Speaking on his appointment, Mark Jones said:

“Ventient Energy is already one of the biggest independent onshore wind generators in the UK and our ambition is to grow our portfolio significantly in the coming years, both in the UK and internationally.

“Given the truly long term, perpetual nature of our investors’ capital, representing pension funds of around 25 million families, I am excited about the opportunity of growing Ventient Energy to complement its well-established core values.

“We have a superb team here in Edinburgh, and across the UK, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues as Ventient Energy continues to grow,” Jones says.

Commenting on the appointment, Ventient Energy Chairman Andrew Lee said:

“Mark Jones is the ideal appointment for this major new phase in Ventient Energy’s growth. He has hands-on experience in the development of renewable energy assets worldwide and his enthusiasm and drive make him a superb asset for the business.

“I would also like to pay tribute to our outgoing CEO, Scott Mackenzie. Scott successfully led the company through the integration of the Zephyr and Infinis Wind portfolios and helped establish an excellent platform which this major new phase can build upon. We wish him every success for the future,” Lee concludes.
