The site’s 21 turbines are spectacularly set in the rugged Highland terrain, towering over the managed pine forest and looking north towards Loch Glashan.

Construction work began in November 2014 and was completed in March 2016. As well as building the turbines, the project required the completion of over 13.5km of access tracks, built with locally sourced rock. The concrete for the turbine bases was also produced on site to limit environmental impact. The wind farm began full production in March 2016.

A’Chruach has two different types of Senvion turbines (MM92s rated at 2MW and MM100s, rated at 2.03MW) giving the wind farm an installed capacity of 42.6MW. It can generate enough energy to power 33,861 homes*.

Benefiting local communities

A’Chruach’s community benefit fund supports a wide range of projects in the communities of West Loch Fyne, Dunadd and Lochgilphead. The fund aims to create a legacy of lasting impact in a number of areas including: advancing rural regeneration; enhancing local infrastructure; establishing new community services and; improving community and leisure facilities.

A’Chruach Wind Farm provides an annual benefits package of around £149,000 (indexed linked) which will amount to more than £3.7million over the 25 year life time of the development.

Recent projects supported have included funding two part-time rangers stationed at Barrandaimh over the course of two years for the Heart of Argyll wildlife organisation, running a community excavation at Carnassarie Castle for Kilmartin Museum and helping with Minard Community Trust’s improvements to the village hall.
