Construction at the site began in July 2012 and commercial operations started in March 2013. Gordonstown Hill’s 5 turbines are rated at 2.5MW and the site has an installed capacity of 12.5MW, generating enough energy to power 9,936 homes*.

Benefiting local communities

Gordonstown Hill Wind Farm’s community fund benefits communities in the Auchterless, Inverkeithny & Fisherford, Fyvie, and Rothienorman & Monquhitter Community Council areas. The annual fund worth £25,000, which is index linked, is made available for the operating life of the wind farm which is expected to be 25 years.

A number of projects have been supported to date including adapting street lighting columns in the centre of Auchterless village to enable a festive lighting display, helping to re-establish the Fisherford Leisure and Activity Group, which provide organised excursions and activities for the community and helping Fisherford Community Association to host up to four fun day events over the course of the year, including advertising costs, insurance, and website maintenance.

The fund has also been used to erect a shelter with BBQ stand and lockup in Fisherford play park and to replace the Fisherford village noticeboard and erect play park signage.
