Although planning consent at Tedder Hill was originally granted to energy giant, E.On in January 2010 following a public inquiry, the site was sold to Infinis. Construction commenced in October 2012 and the turbines began commercial operations in July 2013. The wind farm, whose 3 wind turbines have a maximum tip height of 111m from the turbine base to the blade tip, became part of Ventient Energy in 2018.

Tedder Hill’s 3 turbines are rated at 2.5MW, giving the site an installed capacity of 7.5MW with the ability to generate enough energy to power 5,961 homes*.

Benefiting local communities

Tedder Hill Wind Farm’s community fund is administered by East Riding Council on behalf of the the civil parish formed by the villages of Roos, Hilston and Tunstall and the hamlet of Owstwick which has an estimated population of 1,168. Applications are also welcomed from the village of Rimswell which is situated approximately 2 miles north-west of Withernsea and has a population of 235.

The community fund initially benefited from a one-off payment of £100,000 to fund a low-carbon package designed to benefit local homes and community buildings through the use of energy saving technologies. The fund also benefits from an annual contribution of around £5000 which has been used to support projects such as the creation of an outdoor learning environment at Roos Primary School, help with the rebuild and refurbishment of Burton Pidsea Memorial Hall and the installation of solar panels on the roof of Grade 1 listed All Saints Church in Roos.
