Role purpose
The main function of the role is to de-risk our energy markets exposure, maintain strong regulatory and related markets oversight across our markets, support business development insight, as well as the development of insight, opinions, advice and direction in relation to these areas for the benefit of risk assessment.
- Leads the energy markets, regulation and related risk and opportunities team within Ventient, leading the analysis, risk and opportunity management, commercial insight, value at risk evaluation, merchant exposure positioning
- Provides the primary voice for policy and execution of tactical and strategic steps, supporting Executive decision making and discussion with Board and Shareholder
- Works with business development to ensure continuity of policy, insights and execution in business development as well as existing assets under management
- Works alongside strategic personnel to apply team insight to the direction of the business in the coming strategic period in accordance with our strategic plan
- Facilitates analytical insight to support business modelling, risk analysis, deployment of third-party support where needed
- Supports the future value generation and risk mitigation approach of the business as related to the key areas of responsibility
Key responsibilities
Energy
- Lead formulation and execution of strategy in relation to current and future positioning of the Company relating to value at risk exposure opportunity and mitigation over the one, five year and lifetime of our assets and business development.
- Relate clearly to all current and potential sources of energy revenue and risk relating to current and potential new markets
- Provide clear succinct and insightful advice on energy, regulation and related markets risk and opportunity for practical application
- Provide tactical and strategic management and leadership to the existing team of the energy markets, regulation and related market risks and opportunity, including their development for targeted Value at Risk (VAR) outcomes
- Lead business development insight and execution of strategy, pricing curves, commercial input in relation to market risk and opportunity to the business development team
- Support insight to growth through portfolio and ancillary additions to our wind portfolio, by reference to price, market structure and other evolving markets-related insight
- Interact with third parties providing advice, price curves and related information
Regulation and Related Market Structure Insight
- Formulation and execution of regulatory and related market strategy across the portfolio and business development territories in support of consistent and up-to-date insight for the business development team decisions for the business
Travel
- Regular UK and European travel (approx 2-4 times per month)
Qualifications, training & professional memberships
- Degree qualified or equivalent
Preferred experience
- Highly current Investment insight and techniques
- Energy generation agreements, PPA and other
- Generating succinct, highly timely, insightful analysis and recommendations for investment decision making
- International, across European energy markets; including ideally all Ventient current markets; UK and Iberia at a minimum
- Understanding of European market risk profiles
- Comfort with regulatory market risk exposure, rationalisation
- Levering third parties for maximum risk mitigation and value add
- Track record of high-quality decision making in investment environments
- Team leadership for growth of team members
Skills & knowledge
- Ability to think strategically and work cross functionally in a professional environment
- Strong commercial and financial understanding (ability to link to financial outcomes)
