About the Company

Ventient Energy Ltd, one of the UK’s largest generator of onshore wind energy, and the largest non-utility owner of onshore wind. With 34 wind farms located from Caithness to Cornwall, comprising 509 turbines and 690MW of installed capacity, Ventient Energy supplies the equivalent of 420,000 homes annually, offsetting 0.75 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent a year. The company was formed by combining the Zephyr portfolio of 15 wind farms with 19 wind farms that were formerly owned by Infinis, with the entire portfolio of wind farms now owned by institutional investors advised by JP Morgan Asset Management. The company Headquarters are in Edinburgh where most of its staff are located. Staff who support our wind farm assets are located throughout the UK in regions within close proximity to the wind farms. Current headcount is approximately 45 people.

  • Work Pattern: Full Time - Monday to Friday
Role Purpose:

This is a key position within the Finance team, they comprise control and compliance activities which are essential to the effective running of the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performing month-end activities in accordance with procedures and timescales
  • Prepare month end reporting slides for management review, reporting on variances where applicable
  • Balance sheet reconciliations of key accounts
  • Assistance with statutory account preparation
  • Year-end external audit support – dealing with queries from external auditors as required
  • Personal flexibility to support other activities, as and when required, including, for example, VAT and Corporation Tax.

The Accountant will also provide support in the following areas of activity as and when required: –

Billing and revenue:

  • Billing of all company revenue in line with contracted rates
  • Credit control and initial point of contact for customer queries
  • Escalating issues with billing/cash collection on a timely basis
  • Resolving issues and optimising processing speed and accuracy
  • Reporting to management on working capital and billing progress
  • Continuous improvement of the processing, reporting framework and systems for billing and revenue


  • Maintain the cash books and send out a daily cash report to senior management

Royalty and community benefit payments to landowners and communities:

  • Ensuring royalty and community benefit calculations meet contracted agreements
  • Preparation of calculation statements for royalties and community benefits and issue to landowners and community representatives
  • Inputting journals and other transactions as required into the accounting systems
  • Resolving royalty and community benefits queries from landowners and internal stakeholders
  • Filing and archiving (both electronic and manual) to ensure records are easily identifiable and accessible

Purchase ledger:

  • Enter purchase invoices onto the purchase ledger
  • Reconcile supplier accounts
  • Liaise with suppliers in dealing with their queries
  • Allocate invoices and payments on SUN Accounting System
  • Update and maintain supplier details
  • Raise creditor journals as required and enter onto creditors ledger
  • Undertake creditor ledger account analysis as and when required
  • Produce weekly payment runs

Accounting for other costs including prepayments and accruals:

  • Payroll posting and bonus accruals
  • Operations and Maintenance cost accounting for turbines and sites
  • Standing charges such as rates, import power and water & services charges

Fixed Assets:

  • Monitoring capex spend and ensuring appropriate authorisation of spend
  • Maintaining capex register
  • Setup of assets and project codes
  • Capitalisation of assets
  • Run monthly depreciation and review
  • Asset transfers, disposals and being responsible for the depreciation budget
Qualifications, Training & Professional Memberships
  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA/ICAS/ICAEW)
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with SUN systems and Proactis (preferred but not essential)
  • Demonstrable customer/supplier-facing experience
