Our company headquarters is in Edinburgh, where most of our staff are located. Staff who support our UK wind farm assets are located throughout the UK in regions within close proximity to the wind farms. Our current head count is approximately 48 people.

Role Purpose:

The Systems Engineer will maintain, improve and harden Ventient Energy IT systems and infrastructure. This role will support business growth aspirations to achieve a scalable model and will focus on the following key areas; systems, infrastructure, compliance and cyber security.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage, monitor and administrate the day to day operation of key business systems
  • Project manage IT projects of varying size across the business (i.e. new system implementation)
  • Administrate databases and develop database integration tasks
  • Monitor and test application performance, identify possible improvements and work with suppliers to implement approved changes
  • Improve business productivity by analysing existing systems to develop, propose and lead efficiency and automation-based projects


  • Manage, monitor and administrate the day to day operation of the Ventient Energy IT infrastructure
  • Ensure the highest levels of availability and increase the reliability of the IT infrastructure
  • Lead the hardware refresh policy for the Ventient Energy infrastructure


  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e. ISO27001, NIS Directive)
  • Play a key role in the development of the Information Security Management System
  • Set the standard for new ways of working including championing best IT practices to maximise productivity across the business
  • Develop and improve process and procedures to drive the efficiency and scalability of the IT support function

Cyber Security

  • Play a key role in the testing and improvement of the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity procedures
  • Monitor and respond to alerts to potential security issues working with expert external partners as required
  • Support the development of an information security management system
  • Work with external experts to conduct annual cyber security audits
Qualifications, Training & Professional Memberships:
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Demonstrable IT and business work experience with a broad range of exposure to various technical environments
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience of being a system administrator
  • Networking (WAN, LAN and MPLS)
  • Previous experience with different communications protocols and communication technologies (i.e. ADSL, fibre)
  • Experience of managing IT projects
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects
  • Highly motivated to deliver results and go the extra mile to meet deadlines
  • Cloud experience
  • Database experience
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems highly advantageous
  • Proven track record in adopting new ways of working and technological innovation to improve business productivity
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset to provide a solution orientated approach
  • Taking ownership of projects and tasks
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, ability to interact confidently with end users and third-party suppliers to efficiently establish problems and explain solutions
