Our Evolution

WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT RENEWABLES AND OUR ROLE IN INNOVATING FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE. WE BELIEVE THE KEY TO MEETING EUROPE’S ENERGY NEEDS IS THE INCREASED DEPLOYMENT OF WELL-INTEGRATED RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES, GENERATING POWER AT THE SCALE TO DELIVER A STABLE, COST-EFFECTIVE SUPPLY WITH SECURITY, INDEPENDENCE, AND A ZERO-CARBON FUTURE.

Achieving this is our goal. We know we can make a positive difference, implementing strategic steps that address the evolution of the energy markets in which we operate. Already Europe’s leading independent onshore wind group, with over 140 generating sites and integrated energy market solutioning, and the global sector leader in ESG since our first award in 2019, we have, since 2020, been rapidly evolving the scale and international footprint of our business and evolving into combined renewable energy generation.

This expansion responds to the demands of our stakeholders, who believe in the power of a just and necessary energy transition, demand renewable solutions as customers and, as regulators and governments, recognise the importance of a swift adjustment to energy security where renewables play a more sizeable role. All understand this makes not only economic sense, but also that we contribute significantly to saving the planet from the effects of climate change.

Our sustainable growth is based on an evolution that embraces innovation, people and opportunities for hybridisation and balance. We keep moving forward to achieve our vision and bring continuous stability to our stakeholders in the long term.

SOLAR COLOCATION

Colocation represents the first step for Ventient in delivering a more integrated energy offering through the hybridisation of renewable energy technologies.

We are adding solar PV assets alongside our existing wind farms, initially in Iberia, as this region has the most attractive combination of wind and solar resource and a supporting regulatory framework, as well as exploring opportunities and different renewable technologies, such as energy storage and battery, in the other geographies where we operate.

A typical colocation project development programme includes:

PHASE 1:
Licencing & Permitting

Launch of planning applications, including connection point request (or update in the case of hybridisation), EIAs (Environmental Impact Assessments) and local permits for the use / occupation of public shared infrastructure, e.g, roads, bridges, etc.

PHASE 2:
Contracts

Negotiation for the supply of the main equipment and EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) for the PV plant and evacuation infrastructure.

PHASE 3:
Build / Energy Management Solutions

Construction of the PV plant, which starts at the first mobilisation of personnel to the site and ends when the PV plant is commissioned or energised. Ventient will also combine wind, solar and, where appropriate, wider sources of load management for long-term customer-facing solutions.

PHASE 4: Operation / Continued Energy Management Solutions & AI

PV plant is operational and producing energy. Operation, maintenance and energy management solutions throughout the lifetime of the project through to decommissioning. AI-driven solutions will optimise single-site and cross-Ventient fleet solutions.

BY ADDING SOLAR PV, ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND AI WHERE WE ALREADY HAVE A WIND FARM, WE CAN MAXIMISE THE CAPACITY OF THE ASSETS BY USING THE SAME GRID INFRASTRUCTURE, CONNECTION AND PERMIT TO EXPORT SMARTER AND COST-EFFECTIVE ENERGY TO THE GRID.

Wind and solar production are negatively correlated at two levels:

  • On a daily level: wind tends to be stronger at night, when the solar assets are not producing, and the reverse during the day
  • On a seasonal level: wind tends to be stronger in winter, while solar production is concentrated in the summer

A combined production profile is not only closer to a fuller load profile, but also has a lower production volatility. Together with Ventient’s energy management and AI, this reduces the production risk of the wind portfolio, making the profile more attractive to offtakers and consumers whilst simultaneously reducing LCOE and improving continuity of supply, providing a solution where everyone benefits, including the system itself with more reliable power.
