Ed Flanders

Q. How long have you been at Ventient and what made you want to join?

A. I started working at Ventient in July 2022. I joined the organisation because the company values aligned well with my own career ambitions – to make a lasting and positive impact on the world around us. At a time where the provision of renewable energy is a critical component to reaching Net Zero, I wanted to be part of that journey!

Q. What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on at Ventient?

A. As with the majority of organisations across the world, Ventient is currently navigating the transition to a Net Zero future. As part of this decarbonisation journey, I get the opportunity to work with teams across the business, and partners across our supply chain, to find innovative, creative, and often challenging solutions to reduce our emissions. I find this extremely interesting and often get inspired by the ‘can-do’ and creative attitude among my Ventient colleagues in tackling this challenge.

Q. In your time at Ventient, what achievement are you most proud of?

A. I’m very proud of the entire ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) team for the development of our brand new forward-looking ESG strategy which places the protection of the environment and people at the forefront of what we do. In particular, I’m proud of my contribution to improving our understanding of our carbon footprint, and the development of our Net Zero policy, which both prioritise transparency, accuracy, and evolution.

Q. What does diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mean to you?

A. DEI means to me a diverse, fair, and welcoming workplace where people are comfortable to be themselves and bring their own unique contribution to the table. Ventient is an organisation comprised of people from a range of backgrounds. We collaborate with one another to achieve shared objectives and goals, and do so in a way that makes everyone feel included. This, in my eyes, is what DEI represents.

Q. What’s the best thing about working at Ventient?

A. It may sound cliché, and is a common answer, but it really is the people at Ventient that make it a great place to work. We are built from foundations of well-intentioned, passionate people who love what they do. Working in an environment where people collectively buy-in to the company mission of securing a future for people and the planet, inspires people to work hard for one another and builds a sense of purpose.

Q. What does the Ventient Way mean to you?

A. Doing things the right way – being accurate, transparent, and mission-driven. To me it also means working hard on the things you are passionate about, enjoying the down time and social interactions with your colleagues and leading by example to those around you.

Thanks for sharing, Ed!
